Role Highlights

The family law paralegal plays an integral role in our success. Responsible for managing cases from end to end, including docketing, discovery and legal research, high-level drafting and analysis, financial statement and budget creation, and making case development and strategic recommendations to the attorneys. There is a significant amount of client, and other professional, interaction with this role. The paralegal works independently and collaboratively within a team environment to ensure seamless support and efficiency in legal proceedings.

Primary Focus

  • Case Management: Proactively manage time and workflow, including discovery, to effectively meet deadlines. Assist in preparation for mediations, early neutral evaluations, moderated settlement conferences, and trials (including questions, witness prep, exhibits, etc.).
  • Drafting: Sophisticated and error-free drafting of pleadings, ICMC data sheets, parenting and financial disclosure statements, judgment and decrees, motion documents (affidavits, motions, proposed orders, etc.), subpoenas, etc.
  • Financial Statements and Budget Preparation: Ability to assemble a comprehensive balance sheet, cash flow and budget from information obtained, understanding proper classification of assets and steps needed for valuation of certain assets such as real estate. Utilization of child support and spousal maintenance calculations. Appropriate delineation of marital and non-marital assets.
  • Discovery: Prepare and serve requests; organize and analyze responses. Work with client to fully respond to discovery requests.
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned: Responsibilities, duties, and activities may change at any time.

Core Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or paralegal certification with 5+ years’ experience as a family law paralegal.
  • Critical thinking skills – ability to actively process, objectively analyze and assemble information in a logical manner.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Pro and other family law specific software.
  • Clear, concise, and persuasive verbal and written communications skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, delivering work product with minimal errors.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and conflicting requests.
  • Maintain high standards of professional conduct in compliance with the Minnesota Rules of Professional Conduct.

  • Minimum of 37.5 hours/week during core office hours of 8:00 am to 5:30 pm Monday – Friday. Overtime is expected on occasion.
  • While performing this job’s duties, the employee will have prolonged periods of sitting or standing and working on a computer. Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. and occasionally up to 50 lbs.
  • Compensation for this position, ranging from $75,000 to $100,000, is commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications.
