Henson Efron is pleased to announce that Sarah J. Hewitt has been named a 2023 Up & Coming Attorney by Minnesota Lawyer.  Sarah joined Henson Efron’s family law group in 2021 after clerking in Hennepin Family Court for more than two years.  She draws on that experience to advise clients about what they can expect from the family court process, how the judge is likely to view their case, and the most effective path for achieving their goals.  Sarah is passionate about pro bono work and has donated more than 100 hours of her time in both 2022 and 2023.  Recently, Sarah assisted a pro bono client in a year-long case through Volunteer Lawyers Network.  While the case was pending, she successfully advocated for a temporary order giving her client sole custody of two siblings after the client’s mother passed away unexpectedly.  After nearly two days of trial, the judge found it was in the children’s best interests that Sarah’s client be awarded sole custody permanently.  This allowed the family to stay together and the children to remain in their current schools.  In March, Sarah co-presented for Minnesota CLE’s 2023 Family Law Institute on “Special Considerations in Third-Party Custody Cases.”
