Family Law Appeal Attorneys

Our Approach to Divorce, Custody, and Support Appeals

Courts sometimes make the wrong decision. When that happens, the person who is harmed can seek correction of this mistake through the appeals process. At Henson Efron, our skilled family law attorneys are knowledgeable about this area of law and its unique standards and procedures. Our family law lawyers have the extensive experience and capabilities needed to identify the legal issues for appeal and present powerful and persuasive arguments in support of our clients’ positions.

What is a family law appeal?

A Minnesota family law appeal asks the Minnesota Court of Appeals to review a family court decision for legal error. The court reviews only the existing record and does not allow new evidence.

In most family law cases, the notice of appeal must be filed within 60 days of entry of the final judgment or order. Some orders have shorter deadlines, such as 14 days for Orders for Protection, and certain post-trial motions can pause or reset the 60-day clock.
